Memorandum of Understanding(MoU)




CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography and National Institute of Technology, Goa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in marine instrumentation, including the development of sensors for marine applications using optics/photonics on 31 May 2012. This is the first-ever partnership for NIO with a NIT in the country and NIT Goa’s first MoU with any organization. The MoU was signed by CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography Director Dr Satish R Shetye and Prof G R C Reddy, director National Institute of Technology, Goa. The term of this maiden collaboration between NIO and NITG is 5 years with intent and scope for renewal.

The objective of this collaboration is to undertake joint research projects, the results of which will be transferred to industry, besides publications and patents. CSIR-NIO has offered to take about 10 students per year, ranging for a period of 2 to 6 months, to work on thesis based programmes under the joint supervision of NITG and CSIR-NIO staff either as full project students or summer project students. Similarly, NITG will allow the few nominated staff of NIO to participate in its special lectures and classes.

The NIO team comprises Sanjeev Afzulpurkar (Chairperson), Gajanan Navelkar (Co-convenor), Elgar Desa, Antonio Mascarenhas and R Madhan while the NITG team consists of Prof G R C Reddy (co-Chairperson) and P Saidi Reddy (Convenor).
